Welcome to the DRCFC MESSAGE BOARD, a FREE support service, discussion forum, and/or message board provided by the Disability Resource Center of Fairfield County, Inc. www.drcfc.org This service is available to everyone statewide, nationwide, and worldwide with Internet access. The goal of the DRCFC MESSAGE BOARD is to bring people with disabilities, those who work with people with disabilities (privately, and on the state, local, and federal levels), and those simply interested in advising, mentoring, and making a positive difference in the lives of individuals together to communicate with each other, discuss relevant issues, and share resources, advice, support, and inspiration. You DO NOT have to have a disability to join this community. Everyone is invited to join in and participate! As an online community, we strive to look beyond labels, prejudices, and other societal barriers, and connect with people on a human level. We are more alike than we are different, and there is usually always some common ground we can stand on, some way we can relate to each other, if we look for it. Essentially, we are all on the journey of life together, and it is this universally shared, yet unique, qualification that allows us all to help each other in some way. The scope of this message board extends beyond issues of disability, allowing users to talk about pop culture, movies music, news, other life issues and challenges, and much more. This online forum strives to be an informative, inspiring, empowering, fun place to be, solidly built on acceptance, and respect for all users. There is a place for everyone, regardless of specific life circumstances or issues, to fit in, participate, and make a valuable contribution if they choose to do so. The CORE VISION of the DRCFC MESSAGE BOARD is to: * Be a community that is filled with useful resources, information, advice, inspiration, and empowerment for disabled people, and non-disabled people, who wish to participate in a positive manner that is consistent with the intention, spirit, and established guidelines of the message board. * Create meaningful dialogue and feedback between people and an awareness of relevant issues and concerns, and hopefully facilitate solutions, resolutions, and improvements as well. * Strive to bridge some of the gaps between categories of disability (i.e. physical disability and cognitive disability), as well as ALL groups of people, and to be a DIVERSE community that stands solidly on a foundation of ACCEPTANCE and RESPECT for everyone. Again, we are all more ALIKE, than we are different, and often our differences enhance who we are, and show us the valuable and special things that we have to offer and share with each other. We may not always have all the answers or solutions, but sometimes all it takes is some friendly advice, some inspiration, or simply knowing there is someone who cares and is listening, to propel and empower an individual to achieve their goals. The DRCFC MESSAGE BOARD seeks to bring together a diverse group of individuals from around the state, nation, and world to share resources, advice, support, and inspiration. We believe the impact of establishing this online resource and support system will be great. We hope it is a valuable asset to everyone and an instrumental tool in helping individuals realize goals and dreams, promoting an increased awareness of various issues, and providing an improved quality of life and a brighter future for all involved. Thank you for joining our community and making a valuable, unique, and positive contribution by sharing your knowledge, expertise, experience, and thoughts with others. Posts: 211 10/09/06 00:28:24	GENERAL POSTING GUIDELINES AND CODE OF CONDUCT The DRCFC MESSAGE BOARD requests that all members/users of our community be shown the respect and acceptance that each of us want and deserve at ALL times. We welcome the diverse flow of opinions and thoughts. We have individuals of all ages reading and posting to this board. Therefore, we ask that all posts be suitable for all ages to read. If the message board were a movie, it would be rated PG. The following WILL NOT be tolerated on the DRCFC MESSAGE BOARD under any circumstances and will probably result in threads being deleted or closed, no questions asked: 1. Blatant disregard of a member's feelings and/or personal attacks on them. While all opinions are respected, libelous or defamatory statements of any kind, against individuals or organizations WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Any such statements should be reported to the administrator/moderator for immediate review. 2. Bickering/fighting that is better suited for private email. 3. Sexually explicit discussions or posting of pornographic pictures. ADVERTISING/SPAM POLICY: The DRCFC MESSAGE BOARD strives to be a SPAM-FREE community. Please refrain from posting (or privately e-mailing) any unsolicited advertising or promotional links for products, services, or websites. Individuals who contribute to the DRCFC MESSAGE BOARD are free to share as much or as little information about themselves or issues as they wish. Some individuals are always more willing to share than others. It is hoped that individuals will share information, personal experiences, resources, inspiration, and such in the interest of giving back something of value to the community at large that ultimately will have a positive impact on individuals and improve their quality of life. Please be assured that the DRCFC MESSAGE BOARD is a SAFE place to post and share. This community is closely monitored by an administrator/moderator. It is the job of the administrator/moderator to ensure that all posts fall within certain established guidelines, as described above. The administrator/moderator strives to ensure the safety of all individual members at all times, as well as, address concerns of individual members, both onsite and privately, by individual e-mail and instant message chat, such as AOL Instant Messenger. In addition, the entire DRCFC Message Board community takes pride in creating a safe environment for all members. We all watch out for each other. For the protection of all members online: We strongly recommend that individuals interact in a moderated environment, such as the DRCFC MESSAGE BOARD. Take the time to get to know people and who they are by reading posts and "talking" with them. LOOK FOR CONSISTENCY in how they conduct themselves and the thoughts they share online, much like you would in any other social situation. Take the time to build TRUST, HONESTY, and a SOLID FOUNDATION for a lasting friendship. It is always worthwhile. We request that personal information, such as home phone numbers and home addresses, NOT be shared publicly on the message board. Each member has the ability to share information privately with another member via e-mail or via a private message feature, provided by Yuku. If you should decide to meet someone in person: 1. TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING. 2. ALWAYS MEET IN A PUBLIC PLACE, WITH LOTS PEOPLE AROUND. 3. BRING A PARENT OR FRIEND ALONG. 4. IF YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE FOR ANY REASON, TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS, AND SEEK ASSISTANCE IMMEDIATELY. 5. NEVER AGREE TO GET IN A STRANGER'S VEHICLE OR GO SOMEWHERE ALONE WITH THEM. KELLY Dear Friends: I wanted to take this opportunity to connect with all of you, and share some more information and insights with you that have not already been mentioned above. First, my name is Sean L. Kelly, and I am your friend, and administrator/moderator for the DRCFC MESSAGE BOARD. Please consider me a friend first, as I only plan to wear my administrator/moderator hat when ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. I hope I don't have to wear it often, but this is my responsibility. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the Disability Resource Center of Fairfield County, Inc. More information about this organization can be found at www.drcfc.org I would like to thank the Board of Directors and the entire Disability Resource Center of Fairfield County, Inc. staff for all of their positive support, input, and assistance in establishing the DRCFC Message Board. I must also thank and gratefully acknowledge my friend Chris Beckman and his family for showing me the value of a message board and the positive impact such a resource can have on the lives of many. Chris and his family were the inspirational force behind the formation of the DRCFC Message Board. If it weren't for their inspiration, the DRCFC Message Board would not exist as it does here today.
