A Day with Phyl Macomber and The Power of T.H.E. P.A.C.T.
Keynote Presentation Summary
Spend the day with nationally recognized speaker and author, Phyl Macomber and learn how to set up 4 essential, language-based modules when adapting ANY content that you need to teach using the structured teaching framework called T.H.E. P.A.C.T. (Technology Helps Easy & Practical Adapted Curriculum Teaching). T.H.E. P.A.C.T. is a color-coded framework that uses consistent teaching activity formats and predictable, simple assistive technology solutions - both low tech and high tech - in Learn About, Read About, Write About and Talk About modules - based on a "one size does NOT fit all" philosophy for learners of any age or disability. Walk away with creative teaching ideas and a resource library of simple low tech and high tech AT solutions that you can reasonably implement in any given day - using inexpensive office supplies, things you may already have in your closet or sitting on your shelf, or available to you on your computer. Additionally, you will learn about the NEW and easy-to-use template collection designed in Crick Software's Clicker 5 for T.H.E. P.A.C.T., called T.H.E. P.A.C.T. Power Tools for Clicker 5, which will show you time efficient strategies to build instructional lessons in minutes using Clicker 5 to teach vocabulary, adapt literacy-based activities, provide scaffolded writing instruction, and set up communication activities. In addition, Phyl will be joined by Yuichi Tamano, Senior Content Developer from the Mayer-Johnson Company, to discuss how to integrate T.H.E. P.A.C.T. framework with the vast number of Boardmaker Studio Starter Templates. Phyl & Yuichi will review and distribute a customized Quick Start Guide in the form of an Instruction-At-A-Glance Matrix for Boardmaker Studio for use when linking your receptive and expressive language learning objectives to this software tool.
NOTE: Tools for Schools participants will receive credit for taking The Power of T.H.E. P.A.C.T. 1-Day Course by attending this conference. For more information on Phyl Macomber, T.H.E. P.A.C.T., additional course offerings, and the resource collection, please visit http://www.AboutTHEPACT.com and http://www.PracticalATSolutions.com.

Beyond Duct Tape and Velcro –
Making, Mounting and Modifying Assistive Technology Solutions in Minutes
The ability to create solutions in minutes using everyday tools and materials will always be needed. For example, while the iPad is a wonderful device, individuals with physical, cognitive, or sensory impairments still struggle with full access to this new technology and can benefit from quick solutions. This amazing workshop discusses and demonstrates over 50 different materials that can be used to create hundreds of solutions, such as adapting an iPad, a computer, switches, workstations, tools, educational environments, and independent living aids. This workshop will provide participants with an overview of 42 new and amazing fabrication materials and tools that do not require electricity to use. This includes 10 different kinds of plastics; creative uses for 12 different specialty tapes; 12 small hand tools that all fit in a lunch box; six amazing new fasteners that can be used in amazing new ways; and two different types of foams.
Dr. Therese Willkomm is the Director of New Hampshire’s State Assistive Technology Program with the Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy. She holds a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Technology from the University of Pittsburgh and has over 25 years experience in providing/managing assistive technology services. She is known nationally and internationally as “The MacGyver” of Assistive Technology, and more recently as an expert in Apps for Disabilities and iPad Modifications. Consultations
Let the AT Specialists at NEAT assist you in addressing the AT needs of your students.
Our consultation services…
· help your PPT teams to develop a framework for considering AT.
· conduct assistive technology trials.
· examine outcomes of trials and incorporate AT into the IEP.
· utilize a consultation model to equip educators and/or teams with the knowledge and skills to address the AT
needs of students with disabilities.
· typically last 1-2 hours.
· do not provide written reports or make recommendations for use at a PPT. Cases that have needs that go beyond a two hour meeting, require a formal written report, or need recommendations for a PPT will only be addressed with a full AT or AAC evaluation.
· provide on-going training and consultation to schools at the hourly consultation rate once the initial consultation OR evaluation has been completed.
The AT needs of a student with disabilities can be determined through pinpointing specific areas of need, linking needs to the appropriate AT, conducting trials and examining outcomes of trials. These services can also be beneficial in determining the assistive technology needs of students transitioning from secondary education to postsecondary education and/or employment.
Consultation fees are: Members $100.00 per hour / Non-Members $125.00 per hour
Evaluations
Professional assistive technology evaluations performed by our highly qualified staff.
NEAT School Services include assistive technology evaluations to determine the assistive technology needs of students with disabilities. An evaluation will provide the PPT with a written report and recommendations regarding the assistive technology that will meet the needs of the student. Evaluations are based on a review of student records, intake form, conversations with educators, family, and the student, observations, trial with the device and/or programs, and follow-up conversations.
Evaluation fees are: Members $1,200.00 / Non-Members $1,500.00

“Bringing Apps to the Essential Next Level for Instruction”
Tired of list, lists, and more lists?
Go to the essential next level of organizing your exciting mobile technology solutions based on knowing what to teach, in what format to teach it, and what to use to teach it – all while meeting standards-based instruction using T.H.E. P.A.C.T.
Learn how to draw a line from your endless resource listings of apps directly to meaningful and systemized instruction, based on how a learner acquires, comprehends, processes, and expresses language
During this event, participants will:
· Get the opportunity to have direct, step-by-step instruction on their iPads and have in-person access to the author
· Gain insight about how to use an app for more than one language task or instructional activity
· Leave with a game plan for organizing and systemizing their apps for language-based instruction
Note: Participants are encouraged to bring their fully-charged iPads to this training, as they will not be provided.
Course Prerequisite: Completion of An Introduction to T.H.E. P.A.C.T.
